My Life, Captured

Book Review: In Front of God and Everybody June 7, 2011

In Front of God and Everybody: Confessions of April Grace, by KD McCrite is a story of April Grace, a spunky 11-year-old growing up in rural Arkansas. She gives voice to her adventures, as well as those around her – her grandma and her new boyfriend, her hippie neighbors, and the difficult new-comers. April Grace’s version of the events surrounding her are so funny – I found myself laughing out loud throughout the book.

Although this book doesn’t speak outright of God or the Bible, biblical themes are carried throughout. The characters learn lessons about kindness, attitude, charity and honesty. I was especially challenged and inspired by the power of generosity and kindness exhibited through the lives of April Grace’s parents.

Even though this book is categorized as being for 9-12 year olds, I found it surprisingly delightful and would have no problem recommending this book to my friends, young and old alike.

(Disclaimer: As a blogger I received a free review copy – no requirement to give it a positive review, just for the reviewer to call it like they see it.)

Your cinnamon rolls are delicious,

Your brisket and lasagna are too,

Hubby’s tastebuds nor mine

Know what we would do without you!

Thank you for sharing your genius

With those of us who lack it.

No more empty boasts in the kitchen,

I now have the food to back it!
